DOCUMENTARY ANTWERP-MATADI
a film by Bart Van den Hove
For more than half a century the ‘Congo boats’ transported passengers and trade from Antwerp to the Belgian colony. Due to the demise of the shipping route the last ‘Congo boat’ was taken out of service in the earlier 80’s. On the eve of the 50th anniversary of the Congolese Independence Day, ‘Safmarine’ prepares for travelling back under Belgian flag. In the meantime ‘Port of Antwerp’ and the Congolese ‘Onatra’ are trying to reinvigorate the lost Port of ‘Matadi’. During three weeks we follow the vessel ‘Safmarine Onne’ on his first journey back to Congo.
